About Missy August 10, 2015 Hello. I’m Missy Strothers from Cincinnati, Ohio. I’ll be writing about the driver of the #22 Shell Penzoil Ford, Joey Logano.
I’ve never been a “girlie girl”. As an only child I grew up helping my father around the house including electrical work, shingles and siding, plumbing and yard work. I also learned early on how to work on my own car, including oil changes, tune-ups and general mechanical work. I’ve always loved cars. I grew up in the 70s with many of my friends driving muscle cars and spent many a “date night” at the local drag strip or demolition derbies.
NASCAR was not a big thing to me growing up. I would occasionally watch it on TV. I was usually busy with life outside of TV such as acquiring a college degree, establishing a business career and raising two boys. I do remember watching the Daytona 500 race the day that Dale Sr. died. It wasn’t until we got our own track close by – Kentucky Speedway – that my interest in NASCAR intensified. I had watched Brad Keselowski a bit but really didn’t follow Joey until he moved to Penske. I was impressed with his growth and maturity on the track. It’s often hard for me to realize that he is just a year older than my younger son. But reading more about his commitment to others with the Joey Logano Foundation sold me on what a good guy he is. That squinty smile is hard to resist. He just seems to have fun on the track and with life in general. I love listening to Joey and Todd on the scanner.
I’m currently working in health and safety but will be retiring in 2016. I’m married and have two sons in their twenties but no grandkids as yet. I have two rescue dogs, one boxer and one boxer mix – love those smooshy boxer muzzles! My hobbies are photography (love to shoot pictures at the track), reading, nature and community volunteering. My husband and I love going to car shows and cruise ins. My husband has tricked out a Hyundai Genesis Coupe that he has driven non-competitively at Mid Ohio Race Course. We are currently restoring a 1960 Impala 4 door sport sedan that I plan to take to cruise ins. My husband and I teach and perform mountain dulcimer at folk festivals around our area.
I follow all the Penske drivers in NASCAR and Indy Racing, as well as some other drivers such as Dinger, MWR and a lot of the Xfinity drivers but Joey is my favorite as you can see from my photo.
I look forward to sharing stories of Joey with you! You can also follow me on Facebook, or Twitter @missystrothers.
Be warned, however, that while I don’t consider myself to be either liberal or conservative, I have strong opinions on what is right and what is wrong and I’m not timid about taking a stand.
