April 25/15 In 2006, I started watching NASCAR races but not every Sunday. I had a friend whose parents were huge Tony Stewart fans. It was also around that year when the winged sprints came to the Tularosa Speedway (a dirt track near me, not a NASCAR track) but there were guys in that race that night who are now racing in Sprint Cup. But I still didn’t become a NASCAR fan until 2009.
It’s not like most stories you hear. Mine was, I was doing my homework and I wanted background noise. When I was flipping through the channels I saw the race was on. Once I got done with my homework I saw that there were only three laps to go, so I decided to watch the end of the race. It happened to be the Talladega race where Carl Edwards went up into the catch fence. Let’s just say, that when his car touched the fence, that was when my passion for NASCAR started. It was a fun time at school because when something happened in another sport all the kids would talk about it all day. In first period, that next Monday morning, they would not stop talking about the wreck that Carl had and I knew what they were talking about. Just recently, about four races into the season, I did a speech on NASCAR in my college public speaking class. I like the original Roushketeers; Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle. I like Roush Fenway, and all three of the drivers, even though Matt and Carl went over to Gibbs. Since Greg is still with Roush, I like Greg. For me, I rank drivers for Respect level. Greg is at the top of my list.
Now, a little bit about me. I’m the oldest of four girls. When I was in third grade I got the nickname KK since there were three Kaylas in my class and my middle name is Kaye. Ever since then people have called me either Kaye or KK. I graduated from high school on May 24, 2014. That was a big deal since a lot of teachers said I wouldn’t. I started going to New Mexico State in August. I am studying Criminal Justice but I might change it to Journalism. On the side, I do amateur photography. I have two cats and, as you figured, I live in New Mexico. I live close to the Phoenix and Texas Speedways. We have a New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, but only the lower series in NASCAR stop and race there, like K&N and ARCA. I also love to write.
